Teo: I will rebuild Tampines

In an interview with TODAY paper, Tampines Rovers chairman Teo Hock Seng insists his club can’t be counted out of the title race next season despite having lost four key players in the current season to ISL and A-league clubs.

Teo insists the exodus of stars will not see the demise of the Eastern giants.

“We are not going to pull out of the league, or send out a weak team next year,” Teo said. “We’re not getting involved in the league to play token football, our target is still to finish in the top three. Otherwise, we might as well not play.

“It’s back to the drawing board for us, but it was the same in 1999 when I took over as chairman. Back then Tampines were languishing in the league, but within three years we won the Singapore Cup. There is no doubt we can still make it next year.”

Afterall, Teo pointed out the Stags can still count on the services of Singapore internationals Hassan Sunny, Khairul Amri and Qiu Li, while coach Vorawan Chitavanich and manager Syed Faruk have committed themselves to seeing the club through their rebuilding phase.

“We still have a coach and manager who are loyal to the club,” said Teo.

“We will look for replacements to fill the few slots, we will resuscitate the team, and we will soldier on.”
