AFC Cup: Eagles fall to last-minute goal

For the first time since the inception of the AFC Cup, Singapore could face a Knockout stage without a representative as it sole representative - Geylang United - in the competition faced an uphill task after collecting just 1 point from 2 games.

The Eagles had already started their campaign on the back foot when they dropped 2 points against Hong Kong side Tai Po at home with a 1-1 draw and now, they fall to a 3-2 defeat against V-league Champions Da Nang to find themselves in third place and 2 points behind second-place Thai Port.

This is not a problem if the Eagles are performing but they are not so it is a worry as they faced the team who are competing for second spot thus the knockout stage in the next game.

It will not be easy against Thai Port and the Eagles know it.

It could have been much easier as they had a good start against Da Nang; taking the lead through Walid Lounis before the V-league champions came back to lead 2-1.

However, Siddiq Durimi scored for the Eagles late in the game and it looked good enough for a point at Vietnam but once again the Eagles fall to a late goal as Da Nang scored in injury time.
