Saigon hit with match-fixing

Saigon Xuan Thanh Cement, Tampines Rovers AFC Cup opponent in their opening game, had sacked their coach after their heavy defeat in the Vietnam Super Cup.

They lost 0-4 against V-league champions SHB Da Nang.

But one wondered if it was because of their defeat or because the coach failed to prevent the players under his charge from being involved in match-fixing.

Vietnam Professional Football JSC’s senior official Nguyen Van Vinh has 'shocked' V-league football by claiming an anonymous message sent to some VPF’s officials, before the match, alleged Saigon Xuan Thanh Cement will be defeated by more than three goals.

The results were exactly as this message: Saigon Xuan Thanh Cement lost in a game that the team played very poorly.

VPF’s Ethical Advisory Committee would investigate the case and is working with police on the case.
